Welcome to the zlien Community New Member Introductions Forum -- a great place to tell everyone who you are and what kind of interest you have in Construction Payment.

I'm excited to be a part of the community.  I've been with zlien almost 1 1/2 years and processing preliminary notices and such for projects and sales in multiple states for the last two years.

Hi, I'm Scott, and I'm super excited for this community. As the CEO of zlien, I know first-hand how much construction payment knowledge already exists in our community of users, loyal readers, and in the payment experts within our four walls.

It's a perfect time to launch this community where we can all come together to help everyone here be more confident in their payment process, and ultimately, to make their payments faster, easier, and more collaborative.

Here's a little more about me.

My Family
Fate touched my life in high school, when -- coming from New Orleans -- I went on a school trip to Washington DC and met my wife, Emily, who was on her own school trip from Seattle. We've been married for ten years and have three kids. Below is a picture of us at a park in Austin, TX (where zlien has an office).  We live in New Orleans (where zlien is headquartered).

I'm a lawyer(ish)
Though today I'm CEO of zlien and no longer actively practice, I'm a recovering attorney, licensed to practice in California, Arizona, Louisiana, Georgia, Oregon, and Washington (active today in CA, AZ, LA). I spent my law years practicing construction law, where I represented developers, general contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers in a variety of transactions and disputes. Practicing construction law almost always revolves around the construction payment process; either helping people prepare for it (i.e. in contract) or helping people survive it (i.e. in disputes).

I didn't enjoy practicing. At all.

The fact is that when you're an attorney it's really difficult to help people. People come to attorneys when they have problems -- usually, pretty big problems -- and the best result is to simply mitigate how bad the problem will be. This was especially the case for me with respect to construction payment disputes.

That's the short version of why we started zlien

I run zlien & Created the SET Framework for Payment

Today, I run zlien, which gives payment confidence to thousands of contractors and suppliers across the United States and makes their construction payments faster, easier, and more collaborative. To untangle the extremely complex and sensitive payment problem in construction, I created the SET framework, which results in payments happening faster and in suffocating out bad outcomes like liens and disputes.

SET stands for:

  • See & Be Seen On Every Job
  • Easy Payment Paperwork
  • Talk It Out Through the Payment Chain

I know that cash is the contractor's lifeblood, and am passionate about empowering people in our community to always get every dollar they earn. I'm on a mission kill slow payments and bad outcomes, like liens, in the construction industry, and in your business.

I'm here to make community members the payment rock stars at their company

I've helped many people find the legal information they need through the years, through forums like Avvo and LawGuru, but also by publishing the popular zlien resource center, the zlien blog, and participating in the Construction Legal Center.

I'm looking forward to being an engaged member of this community, too, to help community members have more confidence in their payment processes, and become the rock stars of their company.

Hi folks,

I'm Nick, a relative newbie to construction payments.  I joined zlien in late March and have the great privilege of heading up our marketing.  We're really excited about starting a community around construction & payments and helping with the challenges you face.  We say internally that zlien aims to help remove the stress of construction payment and I believe this community can be a strong resource.

We're most excited to create a dialogue with folks in construction and provide a bit of transparency around this often confusing industry.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you and helping remove stress from construction payment!

Hello! Zlien Community!

We have been clients since 2012. I started researching for a provider that can handle projects all throughout the US (our previous provider could not). I could not be happier. The software is continuously improving by adding more features. The webinars are quite useful and the team is always helpful. Our team supplies and installs commercial kitchen throughout the U.S.  I am one of project coordinators and do a little of all (contracts, ordering, billing, anything to move the project forward). As our team is expanding , we are looking for solutions to help protect our projects as well as get paid timely in an effective manner. Zlien has been our solution and we loo to use the software more and more.

Thank you!

ps . since this is a community forum, if anyone needs a restaurants back or front of house, let me know!! It's great to collaborate with common service providers!

Hello Zommunity. I'm Ayla, the credit and collections manager for the Western Region of Waste Connections, the 3rd largest waste management company in North America. I've been in C&C for 25+ years and have been a client of Zlien for at least 3 of those exciting years. With multiple offices across the 10 states I manage, it was wonderful to find a resource as robust as Zlien to support our secondary security process. I look forward to many interesting conversations on the new community.
